How to Choose a Wedding Colour Scheme That Feels Personal

How to Choose a Wedding Colour Scheme That Feels Personal

Your wedding colour palette does more than guide your décor... it sets the tone for the whole day. From flowers and bridesmaid dresses to stationery and table styling, your colours will influence every visual element of your celebration.

But with endless combinations to choose from, how do you narrow it down to something that feels like you?

Start with Your Venue and Season

Think about the location and time of year. A spring wedding in a glasshouse might suit soft greens and blush tones, while a winter barn celebration might lend itself to rich burgundy and deep forest hues. Working with the surroundings helps everything feel cohesive.

Draw Inspiration from What You Love

Look around your home, your wardrobe, even your social media pins. Are there colours you’re naturally drawn to? Whether it’s modern neutrals, romantic pastels or bold jewel tones, your preferences are a great place to begin.

Limit Your Palette

Stick to two or three main colours and use accents to add depth. This keeps everything looking intentional without being overwhelming. For example, sage green and ivory can be paired with hints of gold or dusky rose for added warmth.

Consider the Mood

Colours evoke emotion. Soft tones create a calm, romantic vibe, while vibrant shades bring energy and fun. Think about the feeling you want your guests to walk away with... relaxed, joyful, elegant... and let that guide your choices.

Coordinate – Don’t Match

Not everything has to be the exact same shade. Mix tones, textures and finishes within your palette to keep things visually interesting. It also allows more flexibility when sourcing dresses, flowers or décor.

Choosing a wedding colour scheme is about more than following trends. It’s a chance to express your style and create a day that feels authentically you... from the first invite to the final dance.
