When to Send Save the Dates, Day Invites & Thank You Cards... A UK Timeline

Timing your wedding stationery correctly is key to keeping your guests informed and your event running smoothly. From the first ‘Save the Date’ to your final ‘Thank You’ card, this UK-specific timeline helps you plan every step with confidence.

1. Save the Date Cards

When to send: 6–12 months before the wedding

Save the Dates are a polite heads-up that lets your guests mark the date in their calendar... especially useful for those travelling or booking annual leave.

  • Planning a destination wedding? Give at least 10–12 months’ notice.

  • For UK weddings, 6–8 months is often sufficient.

Explore our range of Save the Date Cards to set the tone early.

2. Wedding Invitations – Day Guests

When to send: 3–6 months before the wedding

This is the official invite and should include:

  • Venue and ceremony details

  • RSVP info or a QR code

  • Meal options or guest notes (if relevant)

We recommend:

  • 6 months ahead for peak season weddings (May–September)

  • 3–4 months ahead for off-peak weddings or shorter engagements

💡 If you want to include more details or RSVP tear-offs, Concertina Invitations are a popular format for UK weddings.

3. Evening Invitations

When to send: 2–3 months before the wedding

Evening invites typically go to guests not attending the ceremony but invited to the party. Keep things clear, stylish and on-brand with Single Card Invitations or Gatefold Formats.

4. On the Day Stationery

When to finalise: 4–6 weeks before the wedding

Items like:

Finalise once you’ve had all RSVPs back and meal choices confirmed. Leave enough time for design, approval and printing.

5. Wedding Thank You Cards

When to send: 1–3 months after the wedding

Thank You Cards are often overlooked, but they’re a lovely way to wrap up your celebrations and show appreciation to guests.

You can personalise your message or choose a design that matches your invites... we offer elegant options in our Thank You Card Collection.

Planning ahead allows you to avoid last-minute stress and gives your guests all the information they need in good time. Whether you’re sending printed invitations or including digital elements, our design-led stationery ensures your wedding journey feels thoughtful from start to finish.
